Wow. This is by far the best recorded version I’ve heard of this song. (Note the rhythmic allusion to a Charlie Parker melody in the guitar solo.)
28 years of not being in touch, two rehearsals, deep into the second set, we got dialogic. Reconnecting with a music friend from 15 kilos ago. Learn more about Laurie Lang here.
Some more kind words on my CD.
“With What’s Keeping Me Going Arthur Fowler has managed to give us what few artists ever achieve in their lifetimes. Give us a universally accessible set of songs that effortlessly traverse geographic and genre boundaries while baring his soul. The album was released on Valentine’s Day, you can grab a copy here.”
This reviewer really liked my vocals. (:=}
“Key to the changes between these two tracks, which seemingly stand at opposite poles of the spectrum, is the vocal ability of Fowler himself. On the one hand his voice can sound supremely adapted to a laid-back jazz number, and then shift effortlessly to something slightly sinister in carefully enunciated, as if slightly off-key delivery. That is not something which is easy to achieve.”
